2013_08 -- China

I am back from yet another incredible trip. This one's highlight was the discovery of bioluminescence in a common -- but very beautiful -- species of Favolaschia. Interestingly, they don't glow when fresh -- like these are -- . . . .

but only when they start to age.
Over three weeks there I photographed many examples -- with LED versions as well.

There were lots of other mushroomy things as well; the best was finding four species of stinkhorns including two new-to-me: Lysurus gardneri (pictured) and Mutinus sp. And, on the last day a white "holey veil" (not-so-new-to-me) Dictyophora indusiata (pictured).

The other highlight was the seminar itself; about "near-sensing" and digital field research techniques.
